Jon Archer, head brewer at Repton’s Boot Brewery, is a man with a plan – or, more accurately, he’s a man with a whole stack of plans.

It is 18 months or so since Jon stepped in as head brewer, dropping his long-term job in IT for a new career he’d dreamed of. 

Now, with the brewery well established and with a growing, excellent reputation, Jon is ready to spread his wings, not only on a personal level as a brewer, but in terms of growing the business.

Jon Archer is now the head brewer of The Boot Beer Company in Repton

Jon Archer had a good job in IT but he decided to turn his back on the rat race and pursue his life-long passion of brewing beer.

He is now the head brewer at up-and-coming Repton brewery and will soon be celebrating one year in charge of The Boot Beer Company, connected to The Boot Inn, in Boot Hill, Repton, after taking over the reigns in May last year.

The Boot Beer Takes Home Top National Award!

The Boot Beer Company is delighted to have been awarded a silver medal at national level, and a bronze at regional, for Boot Beast! We were awarded second place in the Strong Ale and Barley Wines category at the CAMRA Champion Winter Beer of Britain Festival 2018, against eight other breweries. Congratulations to Green Jack Brewery who came first with Ripper, and to Exmoor Ales who came third with their Beast. At Derby Winter Beer Festival 2018, Boot Beast also gained Bronze in the same category.

We are very proud to have taken home these prizes and hope there will be more to come!

Repton brewer says craft beer revolution is a ‘double edged sword’

The number of breweries has broken through the 2,000 barrier for the first time since the 1930s

A master brewer whose ales are enjoyed by many in Burton and South Derbyshire says the growing success of breweries throughout the UK is a “double-edged sword” for the town.

Jon Archer, brewer at the Boot, in Repton, shared his thoughts on the industry boom after the number of breweries in the UK broke through the 2,000 barrier for the first time since the 1930s.

When Alan Shepherd left Bespoke Inns earlier this year, the Boot Brewery, based at the company’s Boot pub at Repton suddenly needed a new brewer.

That could be a daunting prospect for a small brewery. The transition needs to be seamless, the quality has to be matched, the pubs that are supplied – mostly Bespoke’s own three successful pubs in this instance – can’t have a spell without beer.
